Service Learning
    • Chicago Public Schools requires all students to complete forty hours of service-learning before they graduate. Service-learning is a graduation requirement. Therefore, students who do not complete their service-learning hours WILL NOT GRADUATE.

    • In addition, sophomores must also complete twenty of their service - learning hours by the end of the school year to be promoted to junior status. Those students who do not complete their twenty hours will not be promoted to 11th grade.

    • Twenty of the forty service-learning hours must be completed out-side of the school building. The goal of service-learning is to get students out into their communities where they can make a real difference!

    • Hours must be completed at non-profit organizations. Students may not work for private businesses, even if they are not being paid!

    • Students will receive information about service-learning opportunities in their divisions, as well as through their classroom teachers. They may also join Kelvyn Park's Service-Learning Club or Red Cross Club. (See Ms. Pavona or Ms. Roman-Santos for details).

    • Ms. Pavona, the service-learning coach, is available for consultation in Room 312 and is happy to meet with students. Please leave her a note if you miss her and she will get back to you.

    • Service-learning contracts can be picked up in Room 312 and should be dropped off in Ms. Pavona's mailbox in the main office room 201 when they are completed.
