ATTENDANCE
It is the responsibility of every student to attend class. The student's success at Kelvyn Park High School is directly related to his/her attendance. In order to receive graduation credit for any class, a student must attend class regularly

TARDINESS
Tardiness is considered a disruptive behavior and will be treated as a discipline problem.

ABSENCES
Student who are absent from class, should do the following:

  • Have parent or guardian call the Attendance Office at (773) 534-4773 on the morning of the absence and state the reason for absence.
  • Upon return to school the student must bring an excused absent letter signed and dated by their parent/guardian and drop it off at the student entry. The attendance personnel will issue the student an Excused Absence Verification Form that must be signed by every teacher and returned to their division teacher.
ID's
Your school ID is your official Kelvyn Park High School identification card and should be worn at all times. The card should be worn at all times. The card is not transferable. It is necessary to have you ID to enter the building and to gain access to the school lunchroom. Students who receive free or reduced payment lunches need their ID to obtain lunch.

The ID card is also required to attend all student activities as well as other functions on school premises. Failure to comply with these rules pertaining to the use of this card will result in disciplinary action. You must surrender your ID card to a staff member upon request. Failure to do so could result in disciplinary action.

Temporary ID cards may be purchased upon entry to the school building or in room 112 for $1, The temporary is only valid on the day purchased. Any student who loses their ID card may purchase a replacement card in room 112 at the cost of $10.


Lunch Applications
Kelvyn Park High School uses information provided on the annual Application for Free or Reduced Lunch to determine whether students must pay for their meals. This information is recorded in our computer system and becomes encoded onto the students ID cards. We urge all parents and guardians to complete and submit the application as early as possible. Until the application is received, the student will have to pay for lunch @ $1.25.

Immunizations And Health Examinations
The School Code of Illinois mandates immunizations and health examinations for all children in Illinois in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Illinois Dept. of Pubic Health. Every child must present proof of having had a health examination within one year prior to:
*entering ninth grade

Every child must present proof of immunity against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps, and rubella. The only exception to these requirements is a medical of religious exemption, which must be on file at the school.

Discipline Policy
This section describes a broad of misconduct that is prohibited in school. Because the following sections listing acts of misconduct do not include all types of misconduct, the student who commits an act of misconduct not listed under the section herein shall be subjected to discretionary authority of the classroom teacher and the principal or designee. After a suspension, the student and parent or guardian must have a conference with the Dean of Discipline prior to your return to class. Any student suspended may not participate in any athletic practice session or contest or any extracurricular practice, rehearsal or performance on the day of or during the suspension.

1-1 Running and/or excessive noise in the building
1-2 Leaving the classroom without permission
1-3 Being improperly dressed
1-4 Displaying any behavior that is disruptive to the orderly process of classroom instruction
1-5 Loitering
1-6 Failing to attend class without a valid excuse
1-7 Persistent tardiness to school or class

2-1 Posting or distributing unauthorized or other written material on school ground
2-2 Leaving the school without permission
2-3 Interfering with school authorities and program through walk outs or sit-ins
2-4 Initiating or participating in any unacceptable physical action
2-5 Failing to abide by school rules and regulations
2-6 Using or publishing profane, obscene, indecent, immoral libelous, or offensive language and/or gestures
2-7 Use or possession of tobacco products
2-8 Defying (disobeying) the authority of school personnel
2-9 Failing to provide proper identification
2-10 Unauthorized use of school parking or other areas.

3-4 Profane, obscene, indecent, immoral or seriously offensive language and gesture proposition, exhibiting, or sexual harassment
3-5 Persisting in serious acts or disobedience or misconduct
3-6 Any behavior that is seriously disruptive
3-7 Forgery
3-8 Cheating and/or copying the work of another student.

4-6 Fighting-more than two people and/or involves injury(ies)
4-7 Theft or possession of stolen property not exceeding $150. in value
4-8 Possession, use, or delivery of fireworks
4-9 Possession, use, or delivery of pagers, telephones, and/or other prohibited electronic devices.
4-10 Possession, use, or delivery of cellular telephones, non paging electronic devices (including unauthorized use, possession, or delivery of laser points).
4-11 Disorderly conduct
4-12 Trespassing

5-8 Engaging in any other illegal behavior which interferes with the school's educational process
5-9 Persistent or severe acts of sexual harassment

Disciplinary Action-Minimum To Maximum
Suspension (six to 10 days) and/or Disciplinary Reassignment and/or Police Notification. Both arrest by the Police and Expulsion. If expelled, alternative school placement may be recommended for the period of the expulsion.

Group 6 Acts of Misconduct
6-1 Use, possession, and/or concealment of a firearm/destructive device or other weapon
6-2 Arson
6-3 Bomb threat
6-4 Robbery
6-5 Use, possession, sale, or delivery of alcohol illegal drugs, narcotics, controlled substances, or contraband
6-6 Sex violations
6-7 Aggravated Battery
6-8 Murder
6-9 Attempted Murder
6-10 Kidnapping

Disciplinary Action
Police notification, and/or arrest and expulsion for a period of not less than one calendar year, or as modified on a case-by review by the Chief Executive Officer or designee. Alternative School placement may be recommended for the period of the expulsion.

First time offenders of Groups Act of Misconducts for which student is referred for expulsion, but which do not involve violence or threat, student may be recommended by expulsion hearing officer to attend the SMART Program in lieu of expulsion. See page 22 of UDC.
